Rajahmundry: The Pulasa (Hilsa) fish season has arrived early. Much to their pleasant surprise, fishermen of Pedalanka village in East Godavari district netted the fish on Friday, several weeks before it normally makes its appearance.A single fish weighing more than 3 kg was sold for Rs 3,000 at Malkipuram market, sources said, adding that price opf the fish generally ranges between Rs 3,000 and Rs 5,000 a kg.According to sources, the sea fish generally enters the Godavari river during the monsoon floods and the fishermen get the catch in August and September. The fish swims against the current and fishermen usually get it at the Dowleswaram barrage, Kotipalli and other areas, the sources said.Fish lover P Ramakrishna of Amalapuram said people are ready to pay any cost to get Pulasa on their plates.
“Usually, the fish is available from the end of July as the flood water reaches Godavari. But this year the fish surface quite early. We came to know that heavy rains at the upstream areas helped the fish to swim into the river.
