With special focus on IT sector in the last decade and the existence of both STPI under government of India and IT-SEZ sponsored by government of AP, in district headquarters city Kakinada, the IT activity is poised for more growth in two Godavari districts.
IT boom expected in Godavari districts.
According to reliable information, a total 48 IT companies are existing in both the districts with bulk of the number in East Godavari. West Godavari shares three out of this total in Tanuku, the important industrial town in West Godavari. Together all these units provide employment to the tune of 3,800 with bulk of employment provision going in favour of InfoTech company to the tune of more than one fourth of the total.
Starting with a mere Rs 10 crore turnover during 2007-08 the activity of IT and IT enabled services picked up 10 times in the last decade and reached to Rs 126 crore by 2014-15. Apart from US, UK , Canada the IT exports made inroads into European Union and Switzerland . In the present year, the turnover is expected to cross Rs 150 crore.
The incubation facility at both STPI and IT SEZ providing added fillip to the activity in these parts for new companies to start the activity and move out after gaining sufficient experience and grounding the activity.
The tire III Status to Kakinada and Rajahmundry and the availability of talent pool in the form of 81 professional colleges in both the Godavari districts, besides air, rail and road connectivity also said to be added advantage for development of IT activity. In addition to this, the cost factor also said to be an added advantage.
STPI Joint Director Suresh Batha moots for incubation facility in professional colleges which will provide more exposure to the student community on IT activities.
When contacted, former vice chancellor of JNTU-K and renowned IT expert Dr Allam Apapa Rao suggests for sops like tax benefits, power tariff benefits, land allotment and allied sops will be more helpful for entrepreneurs to come forward for setting up new units and development of IT activity in these parts.
“It is a healthy sign that more freshers from colleges are coming forward for setting up units,” Dr Rao said.
